Wheelchair accessible safaris, wildlife and Zulu culture for cruise passengers docking in KwaZulu-Natal — private, guided, and planned around your ship's schedule.
Access2Africa Safaris has been running wheelchair accessible travel in KwaZulu-Natal for years, for wheelchair users, seniors, travellers with limited mobility and families who need everything to simply work. Your guide meets you at the terminal, and the return leg is planned around all-aboard rather than squeezed in behind it.
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, Africa's oldest proclaimed reserve and the park that saved the white rhino.
An accessible boat safari through iSimangaliso — hippo, crocodile and prolific birdlife.
A traditional village visit, with dancing, homestead life and craft demonstrations.
Glass-walled chalets with private outdoor jacuzzis on the overnight packages.
Richards Bay puts you within reach of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and the Zululand bush — close enough for a day ashore, or the start of an overnight package that rejoins your ship in Durban.
Travel north into Zululand with your own private guide in search of elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and hippo, then break for lunch on the escarpment at Hilltop Camp with the reserve spread out below you.
Your guide meets you at Richards Bay Cruise Terminal and helps you board the accessible vehicle. The drive north through the cane fields and Zululand hills takes roughly an hour and three quarters.
Enter the park and begin your morning game drive through the hill country and river valleys of the Hluhluwe section. Your guide works the reserve at your pace, stopping as long as a sighting deserves.
Lunch on the escarpment at Hilltop Camp, with the reserve laid out below you. Accessible restaurant and facilities.
A second drive on a different route back through the park, when the afternoon light brings the animals back to the open ground and the waterholes.
You are returned to the terminal comfortably ahead of all-aboard, with time to spare rather than a rush at the gangway.
For ships that overnight in port or carry on to Durban — a proper night in the bush instead of a rushed day ashore. You stay at Leopard Walk Lodge in a fully accessible glass-walled chalet with its own private outdoor jacuzzi, and wake for the dawn game drive, when the park is at its best.
Your guide meets you at Richards Bay Cruise Terminal mid-morning and heads north into Zululand. You visit the Cat Rehabilitation Centre — cheetah, serval, caracal and African wildcat, on level accessible pathways — before a light lunch.
Afternoon check-in at Leopard Walk Lodge leaves time to rest and settle, or to enjoy your private jacuzzi and the view, before sundowners and dinner at the lodge.
Leopard Walk Lodge, HluhluweEarly coffee and rusks before a morning Big Five game drive in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park — the best light and the best game viewing of the day, and the reason the overnight package is worth the extra night.
Lunch at Hilltop Camp, then the drive back to the coast, arriving at the cruise terminal mid-afternoon.
Our most popular accessible cruise excursion. Safari, wildlife, culture and wetland in one package — you leave the ship at one port and rejoin it at the next, and three days is long enough for the country to stop being scenery and start being a place you know.
Met at Richards Bay Cruise Terminal and driven north into Zululand for a guided visit to the Cat Rehabilitation Centre. Lunch follows, then check-in to your accessible chalet at Leopard Walk Lodge with the afternoon free to rest or use your private outdoor jacuzzi.
Sundowners and dinner at the lodge.
Leopard Walk Lodge, HluhluweA full day in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park with your private guide, working the reserve on the park's own schedule rather than a coach timetable. Lunch at Hilltop Camp, overlooking the reserve, then back out for the afternoon.
Dinner at the lodge, followed by an optional guided night safari in search of nocturnal species.
Leopard Walk Lodge, HluhluweThe morning starts at a traditional Zulu cultural village — dancing, homestead life and craft demonstrations — before you travel to St Lucia in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
An accessible boat safari on the St Lucia Estuary brings hippo, crocodile, fish eagles and prolific birdlife, followed by lunch in the village. The drive to Durban gets you to the cruise terminal in good time for your ship.
Durban keeps you close to the coast, with a game reserve and Zulu heritage both within an easy drive of the terminal — no long transfer at either end of the day.
Wildlife and Zulu heritage in a single day ashore. A private accessible game drive in search of rhino, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a range of antelope, followed by a traditional Zulu cultural village set in the Valley of a Thousand Hills — one of the most striking landscapes in the province.
Your guide meets you at Durban Cruise Terminal and you head inland, climbing out of the city towards the reserve.
A private game drive in search of rhino, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala and nyala, at whatever pace suits you. Lunch follows at the reserve.
A traditional Zulu village in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, with dancing and a guided walk through a homestead — the cultural half of the day, and a genuine one.
The return runs via the Valley of a Thousand Hills viewpoints for photographs, arriving back at the terminal in good time for all-aboard.
Timings shown are typical and are confirmed against your ship's actual arrival and all-aboard times when we quote. Overnight excursions that leave the ship at one port and rejoin at another usually need your cruise line's prior approval — send us your ship and dates and we will advise.
Tell us your wheelchair dimensions, whether you can transfer to a vehicle seat, and any equipment travelling with you. We match the vehicle to you rather than the other way round, which is the whole point.
Send us your ship, your port and your date, along with what you need on the ground, and we'll come back with availability and a quotation.
