Ready for Safari? Qantas Carer Discounts Could Make Now the Perfect Time
If you’ve ever dreamed of going on safari in South Africa, there’s never been a better time to start planning. And if you or someone you love travels with a carer or support person, Qantas has just made that journey a little more accessible and a lot more affordable.
Let’s talk travel savings
As of early 2025, Qantas has expanded its carer concession program, offering generous discounts for travelers who require assistance due to disability or long-term health conditions. If you’re eligible for a Qantas Carer Concession Card, both you and your carer could receive:
- 30% off the base fare on domestic flights within Australia
- 10% off the base fare on international Qantas flights, including to South Africa
These savings apply to all cabin classes, whether the ticket is on sale or not. Taxes and carrier fees still apply, but the base fare reduction can make a major difference, especially for long-distance travel.
Can disabled people go on a safari?
Yes, absolutely. Accessible safaris are not only possible, but they can also be just as exciting and immersive as any other experience. At Access2Africa Safaris, we design each journey with inclusion in mind. Our adapted vehicles, trained guides, and accessible accommodations allow disabled travelers to enjoy every part of the adventure without missing a moment.
Is South Africa wheelchair friendly?
Many areas are, especially when working with accessibility-focused providers. Cities like Durban and Cape Town offer relatively good infrastructure for wheelchair users. In safari regions, more and more lodges and tour companies, such as ours, are adapting to meet the needs of travelers with mobility challenges. We carefully plan each itinerary to ensure step-free access, roll-in showers, and support at every stage, from airport arrival to game drive – just to name a few things!
Why this matters
Many disabled travelers are required to fly with a carer to help with safety, communication, or personal care. Covering the cost of two people just to make one essential trip can be a barrier. The Qantas concessions acknowledge this and help reduce the financial pressure.
Living with a disability often means higher day-to-day costs. Travel should not be another obstacle. These discounts make it a little easier to experience the world with freedom and dignity.
